What Does Your Church Believe?
Maybe you are wondering what kind of church this is or what denomination we are. We are nondenominational--we report to no headquarters or organization--but even nondenominational churches have differing beliefs and characteristics. We, along with other Bible believing churches affirm the "fundamentals of the faith":
1) the inerrancy of the scriptures (II Timothy 3:16; John 10:35),
2) the virgin birth of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:18-25),
3) the death of Christ as the propitiation of our sins (Romans 3:23-25; I John 4:10),
4) the bodily resurrection of Christ (Matthew 28:5, 6; I Corinthians 15:12-20) , and
5) the authenticity of Christ's miracles (Luke 4:40; John 14:11) .
Our church is firmly rooted in the Restoration Movement and is similar to other churches of Christ in that we believe in:
1) the centrality and supremacy of Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:15-20),
2) the Scriptures alone--to the exclusion of man-made creeds--as our authority in the church, for Christian living, and the basis of Christian unity (II Timothy 3:16, 17; I Corinthians 4:6)
3) the practice of baptizing only repentant, professing believers by immersion into Christ for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-4),
4) the independence of local congregations guided by elders and evangelists under the authority of Christ (Acts 20:17-35; Titus 1:5), and
5) the observance of the Lord's Supper (Holy Communion) each Sunday (Acts 20:7).
We hold to the slogans that have defined us for generations:
1) "Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent."
2) "No creed but Christ; no book but the Bible; no law but love."
3) "In matters of faith, unity; in opinions, liberty; in all things, charity."
4) "My Master first, then others."
5) "We're not the only Christians, but we are Christians only."
Though Prairie Green Church of Christ is independent, we "run with" other Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in supporting ministries like Lincoln Christian University and Prairie States Christian Service Camp, among others.
